SPORTS WEEKEND PREVIEW ( 9th Edition )

Well we have another Sports Weekend upon us and before I look at this weekends action I need to vent. The people running the High School League in South Carolina are a bunch of IDIOTS. The reclassification's for next school year are a joke. They might as well should have pulled teams out of a hat with the way it looks. But my biggest beef is them denying the appeal for Boiling Springs to be in the playoffs. Yes the Bulldog's coaches made a mistake letting an eight grader play in a scrimmage, but what about the brawl early this season between Summerville and Stratford? Those schools did not get banned from the playoffs! I guess your school name has to be Summerville and your coaches name has to be McKissick to get treated fair! IT'S JUST ONE BIG JOKE!

Well I have vented, so lets look at the games for this weekend.

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK

Woodruff @ Chesnee..... This is the game that will decide the Region Championship. The Wolverines are unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in 2A and have been very impressive this season especially on offense. Jake Lambert has been lights out at QB for Woodruff. The Wolverines defense has been getting better as the season has progressed, and is pretty good. Chesnee has a pretty darn good QB of their own in Walt Miller. He had a huge game last week against Southside where he was 14 for 23 passing for 314 yards and five TDs. He also had a rushing TD as well. The Eagles defense has gotten better, and I expect them to slow down Woodruff's offense. I look for this to be a very good game with the Wolverines staying unbeaten..... Woodruff 31 Chesnee 21

OTHER HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Gaffney @ Clover..... This is a huge game in Region 3 4A. The Indians have not been tested the last three weeks, but have an exam this week. They pass but barely........ Gaffney 35 Clover 31

Chesterfield @ McBee..... This battle for the Region Championship should be over by half time..... Chesterfield 43 McBee 8

Spartanburg @ Boiling Springs..... The Bulldogs defeated the Vikings for the first time last year. They make it two in a row..... Boiling Springs 17 Spartanburg 13

Blacksburg @ Southside Christian..... The Wildcats try to beat Southside Christian for a second time this season. They will..... Blacksburg 27 Southside Christian 16

Mauldin @ Byrnes..... The Rebels should be a little flat this week after big win over Dorman last week. Mauldin will hang around for awhile..... Byrnes 38 Mauldin 17

Chapman @ Clinton..... The Panthers need this game desperately. They won't get it..... Clinton 24 Chapman 14

Palmetto @ Broome..... Huge game for Broome if they want to finish at least in second spot in region. They get it..... Broome 30 Palmetto 14

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK

South Carolina @ Tennessee..... This game could have really been good if Steve Spurrier had not kept his mouth shut. Spurrier vs Kiffin would have been fun. So I guess the game will have to be fun and it will. The Gamecocks are determined to show the country that they are a different team this year. This is the part of their schedule that they usually end up faltering. Tennessee needs this win to show the country that their near miss against Alabama was not a fluke. South Carolina has a little more offense and should win a close one..... South Carolina 20 Tennessee 17

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES

Coastal Carolina @ Clemson..... The Tigers have momentum and should make this a typical Homecoming blowout..... Clemson 44 Coastal Carolina 6

North Carolina State @ Florida State..... The Noles are tuning up for big show down at Clemson next week..... Florida State 37 NC State 24

Duke @ Virginia..... The Blue Devils have a chance to win third ACC game in a row. They will..... Duke 20 Virginia 14

Texas @ Oklahoma State..... The Longhorns continue to stake their claim to be No.1..... Texas 34 Oklahoma State 20

Georgia vs Florida..... The Gators defense has been carrying them the last couple of weeks. They will score more this week..... Florida 33 Georgia 17

Georgia Tech @ Vanderbilt..... The Yellow Jackets are on a roll and will roll out of Nashville with a big win..... Georgia Tech 35 Vanderbilt 14

NFL GAME OF THE WEEK

Minnesota @ Green Bay..... This has got to be the game of the day with Brett Favre going back to play in Green Bay against the Packers. Farve led his new team ,the Vikings, to victory over the Packers a few weeks back and I believe he will get a win as the visiting QB on the field that he led the Packers to so many wins..... Minnesota 27 Green Bay 21

OTHER NFL GAMES

Carolina @ Arizona..... The Panthers need a win very bad. I believe they will play well, but they come up short..... Arizona 24 Carolina 20

Denver @ Baltimore..... The Broncoes luck runs out this week....,. Baltimore 23 Denver 17

Seattle @ Dallas..... The Cowboys got a big win last week and should get another this week..... Dallas 30 Seattle 17

Miami @ NY Jets..... The Dolphins won a thriller on Monday night a few weeks back. The Jets get revenge..... NY Jets 26 Miami 23

Enjoy the games.

Until Monday.

GENERAL VIEWS ( 8th Edition )

Well it is fall and the trees are changing colors. The weather is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter and you see people outside raking leaves in their yard. What does this mean in the Sports World? THE WORLD SERIES IS HERE, THE FALL CLASSIC! The thing that the Boys of Summer play for and dream about. It has been a long Baseball season and we are finally down to our final two. Today I would like to look at The 2009 World Series between the defending World Series Champions the Philadelphia Phillies and the storied New York Yankees.

In Game 1 of the series at Yankee Stadium, the Phillies are going to start Left Hander Cliff Lee. Lee was acquired just before the trade deadline by Philadelphia from the Cleveland Indians. Cliff Lee is the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner and he went 7 and 4 with a 3.39 ERA down the stretch. The Yankees are going to start Left Hander CC Sabathia who went 19 and 8 with a 3.37 ERA this season. The interesting part about this pitching match-up is these two were teammates on the Cleveland Indians in 2007 and 2008. They are the last two American League Cy Young Award winners. Both pitchers have been great during the Post Season.

The World Series this year matches teams with explosive offenses with a lot of power. The two big name sluggers are Ryan Howard for the Phillies and Alex Rodriguez for the Yankees. I give the offensive advantage to the YANKEES. I rate both teams starting pitching as EVEN. The Bullpen advantage goes to the YANKEES. The Managers advantage goes to the PHILLIES. I look for this to be a very good World Series and I see the YANKEES WINNING IN SEVEN GAMES.

MID-SEASON REPORT CARD ON THE CLEMSON TIGERS

The Clemson offense has started showing some signs of life the last two weeks. I have to look at the season as a whole up to now. The young QB has struggled with consistency. The offensive line is getting better, but lacks the physicality that they need to have a consistent running game. The receiving corps, other than Jacoby Ford, needs to find some more play makers. The Tigers RBs have played pretty good at times, but they need to establish more play makers to help out C.J. Spiller. The Tigers TEs have played very good, especially the last couple of weeks as they have become more of an option with the offense. I give the Clemson Offense a Grade of.....
C-

The Clemson defense has played pretty good most of the season to this point. The defense has been dominant at times, had consistency lapses at times, two first half drives against Maryland comes to mind, they have given up a few big plays, against Georgia Tech and Miami, and they have failed to make a stop late in the game to preserve victory in the games that the Tigers lost. With the offensive struggles the Tigers have had, if it wasn't for their defensive play the Tigers would not have had a chance to win each of the games that they have played this season. So the defense has kept the Tigers in every game that they have played this season. Defense Grade...
B-

The Clemson special teams have been that, pretty special to this point. The kick off and punt return teams have been spectacular with CJ Spiller returning three kick offs and one punt for TDs so far this season. Jacoby Ford has returned a punt for a TD as well. If it wasn't for the special teams points the Tigers would not have won a couple of their games. The field goal kicking of Richard Jackson has been a very pleasant surprise as he has hit 17 for 23 with a couple over 50 yards. However, Jackson has missed 3 critical field goals this season with the game on the line in a couple of the Tigers losses. He missed one late against TCU when the Tigers were trying to win late in the 4th quarter. He also missed two kicks late in the 4th quarter that would have tied the game in their loss to Maryland. The punt coverage team had a couple of break downs against Georgia Tech that cost the team two scores, and they had a break down against Maryland that set up a 2nd half score. All in all the Special Teams Grade is a.....
B+

Overall the Tigers are 4 and 3 and they are 3 and 2 in the ACC and they control their own destiny, as they lead the Atlantic Division with three games to go. The bad loss to a bad Maryland team hurts the overall Grade of Clemson's season as I didn't see that one coming. The big win at Miami helps the Grade, but I did think before the season that a victory at Miami would be possible. I give the overall Mid-Season Grade to Clemson's season a.....

*********THE ARMCHAIR COACH GAME BALL OF THE WEEK goes to Clemson star C.J. Spiller for his 310 all-purpose yards in the Tigers upset of 8th Ranked Miami*********

DID YOU KNOW? The 310 all-purpose yards that C.J. Spiller had against Miami is a Clemson School record.

Until Friday.

SPORTS WEEKEND REVIEW ( 8th Edition )

TIGERS UPSET NO. 8 MIAMI!
THE COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK had the Clemson Tigers and Miami Hurricanes going back and forth in a thriller as the game had nine lead changes. The Tigers tied the game with a 30 yard Richard Jackson field goal with 5 seconds left to force overtime. The Tigers elected to go on defense first and held Miami to a field goal and a 37 to 34 lead by the Canes. On 3rd down and eleven yards to go on the 26 yard line Clemson Freshman QB Kyle Parker hit WR Jacoby Ford on a post that scored the winning TD for a 40 to
37 overtime victory over the 8th ranked Hurricanes! Pandemonium erupted on the Clemson side line as the Tigers had beaten their first top-25 team since a 27 to 20 win at Florida State on September 16th 2006. Clemson star C.J. Spiller had a school record 310 all-purpose yards and two TDs and QB Kyle Parker had a career day with a 25 of 37 for 326 yards and 3 TD passes to lead the Tigers offense. DeAndre McDaniel had two more pass interceptions one, that he returned for a 23 yard TD. The Tigers played well, but they did make some mistakes and they still found a way to win the game. It was a total team win that they can enjoy for about a day as they have to start preparing for the Coastal Carolina game Saturday.
THE HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK between Dorman and Byrnes was a down to the wire game won by the Byrnes Rebels 17 to 10. The Rebels rode their horse Marcus Lattimore who had 33 carries for 158 yards and 2 TDs. The Dorman defense shut down the Rebels passing game as they held QB Chas Dodd to 124 yards and 1 interception. The Byrnes defense held Dorman star Charone Peake to one catch, but it was a big one for a 63 yard TD. The Cavaliers tried to tie the game late, but the Rebels defense held Dorman on downs. The Rebels are in the drivers seat for the Region 2 4A title.
THE NFL GAME OF THE WEEK had the Dallas Cowboys defeating the Atlanta Falcons 37 to 21. The Cowboys got it done in a game that they needed desperately if they were going to stay in the NFC East race. The Cowboys are now 4 and 2 and the Falcons fall to 4 and 2 and two games behind the unbeaten New Orleans Saints.
THE ARMCHAIR COACH went 16 and 4 in game predictions this past weekend. Total for the season is 114 and 42 for a percentage of .731.
Until Wednesday.

SPORTS WEEKEND PREVIEW ( 8TH Edition )

The Philadelphia Phillies finished off the Dodgers in five games to advance to the National League side of the World Series. The Angels defeated the Yankees last night to send the ALCS back to Yankee Stadium with the Yankees leading the series 3 games to 2. Game 6 is Saturday night as the Angels send Joe Saunders to the mound against the Yankees Andy Pettitte. Pettitte has been a great post season pitcher in his career and I see the Yankees winning Game 6 to set up a Phillies vs Yankees World Series. It should be some great baseball action.

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK

Dorman @ Byrnes..... On paper this looks to be a great football game. Dorman defeated the Rebels during the regular season last year and has won 20 consecutive regular season games. The Rebels then bounced the Cavaliers from the playoffs in the Upperstate Championship game the night after Thanksgiving. The Byrnes Rebels have won 58 consecutive home games at Nixon Field, so one streak has to end tonight. Both teams have fantastic play makers, and very good defenses. The Byrnes Rebels have MORE PLAY MAKERS and a BETTER DEFENSE so I see this game to be not as close as most people do..... Byrnes 34 Dorman 14

OTHER HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Mauldin @ Boiling Springs..... I am calling this game The Want-To-Be Bowl. Both of these teams are 7 and 1 and want to be considered an upstate power this season. The winner will be one step closer..... Mauldin 31 Boiling Springs 24

Broome @ Woodruff..... The winner of this game is in the drivers seat for the Region 2 2A title..... Woodruff 38 Broome 20

Fort Mill @ Gaffney..... The Indians should have their way with the win less Yellow Jackets on Homecoming at The Reservation..... Gaffney 48 Fort Mill 6

Chesnee @ Southside..... The Eagles want to avenge their 39 to 26 loss to the Tigers last season and they will..... Chesnee 36 Southside 19

Chesterfield @ North Central..... The fans and players of North Central really won't know if they are North or Central when the Rams get done..... Chesterfield 41 North Central 8

Blacksburg @ Landrum..... Blacksburgs win over Whitmire last week makes this a key game in Region 2 1A. The home team should win..... Landrum 23 Blacksburg 14

Clinton @ Union County..... This game is very big in the Region 3 3A standings as all the teams are within a game of each other..... Union County 20 Clinton 18

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK

Clemson @ Miami..... This is a huge game in the ACC as Miami controls their own destiny in the Coastal Division and Clemson is only a half game out of the lead in the Atlantic Division. This will be the Tigers third game against a top 15 team this season as they lost close games to Georgia Tech and TCU. Miami is banged up for this game and Clemson is coming off their most complete game of the season ,in their victory over Wake Forest. The Tigers are looking for their signature win for Head Coach Dabo Swinney's program and I believe they can get it. The Tigers in an upset..... Clemson 23 Miami 20

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES

Maryland @ Duke..... This is a game between two teams headed in opposite directions as Duke has played well lately and Maryland has not..... Duke 27 Maryland 19

Vanderbilt @ South Carolina..... Vandy has won the last two seasons over the Gamecocks. South Carolina will get back on track against the Commodores this year..... South Carolina 30 Vanderbilt 14

Tennessee @ Alabama..... The Volunteers appear to be getting better and will play well in this game but the Tide will roll..... Alabama 29 Tennessee 13

Boston College @ Notre Dame..... Which Boston College team will show up? The one that loses to Notre Dame..... Notre Dame 27 Boston College 17

Florida @ Mississippi State..... The Gators have had a hard time winning in Starkville over the years but not this year..... Florida 34 Mississippi State 10

Georgia Tech @ Virginia..... The Yellow Jackets will bring the Cavaliers back down to earth..... Georgia Tech 38 Virginia 16

NFL GAME OF THE WEEK

Atlanta @ Dallas..... The Dallas Cowboys have under achieved this season and they need a big win to get their season on track. The Atlanta Falcons have played very well at times this season losing only to New England. This is a very big game and very well could set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams. A win by the Cowboys could turn their season around. A win by the Falcons would show the NFL that they are legitimate contenders. I see the Cowboys getting the win..... Dallas 24 Atlanta 20

OTHER NFL GAMES

Buffalo @ Carolina..... The Panthers have a chance to get to the .500 mark. They will do just that..... Carolina 23 Buffalo 17

Minnesota @ Pittsburg..... The Vikings are one of four undefeated teams left in the NFL. They will stay that way..... Minnesota 20 Pittsburg 17

Green Bay @ Cleveland..... The Packers should win this game big but, I see the score to be closer than expected..... Green Bay 24 Cleveland 14

New Orleans @ Miami..... I have a hunch that the Dolphins will be ready for the high powered Saints after a week off to prepare..... Miami 27 New Orleans 24

Enjoy your Sports Weekend.

Until Monday.

GENERAL VIEWS ( 7th Edition )

The first thing I want to look at today is the MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS.

THE NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES has had its moments, Game 1 of the series had the Philadelphia Phillies coming from behind to win 8 to 6 over the LA Dodgers. Game 2 was a pitching duel as the Dodgers won 2 to 1 to even the series at 1 and 1 going to Philadelphia for games 3, 4 and 5. Game 3 was a blowout, as the Phillies behind a great pitching performance by Cliff Lee, battered the Dodgers 11 to 0 to take a 2 games to 1 lead in the series. Game 4 has been the most exciting game of the series to this point, as the Phillies got a two run double with two outs in the bottom of the 9th from Jimmy Rollins to rally his team to a 5 to 4 victory over the Dodgers and a 3 games to 1 lead in the series. Jimmy Rollins was just 3 for 18 in the series to that point, but got his game winning hit off the Dodgers All star closer Jonathan Broxton. In tonight's Game 5 the Phillies will send last season's post season hero Cole Hamels to the mound to see if he can pitch the Phillies to their 2nd consecutive World Series appearance and a chance to repeat as World Champions. The Dodgers will send Vicente Padilla to the mound as he tries to send the series back to Los Angeles. Padilla was a late season acquisition by the Dodgers and came up big as he went 4 and 0 down the stretch. First pitch is scheduled for 8:07 PM.

THE AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES has had its share of drama, Game 1 had the NY Yankees winning 4 to 1 over the LA Angels to take a 1 game to 0 lead in the series. Game 2 had the Yankees winning a dramatic 13 inning game 4 to 3 to take a 2 games to 0 lead as the series shifted to Los Angeles for games 3, 4 and 5 if necessary. Game 3 had the Angels giving the Yankees their first post season loss of this post season, in dramatic fashion, as Jeff Mathis hit a two out double in the bottom of the 11th inning to score Howie Kendrick with the winning run in the Angels 5 to 4 victory. The Angels victory cut the Yankees series lead to 2 games to 1. Game 4 had Alex Rodriguez homering for the 3rd consecutive game and CC Sabathia pitching 8 strong innings as the Yankees pounded the Angels 10 to 1 to take a commanding 3 games to 1 lead in the series. Game 5 of the series is scheduled for Thursday night at 8:00 PM. AJ Burnett will pitch for the Yankees and John Lackey for the Angels.

I will be surprised if both Championship Series are not over after both game 5s. I do expect a Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Yankees World Series. This would be a very interesting World Series as the Phillies try for the repeat and the Yankees try for their 27th World Championship.

*******THE ARMCHAIR COACH GAME BALL OF THE WEEK goes to WR SIDNEY RICE of the Minnesota Vikings for his 6 catches for 176 yards, and he also caught a 58 yard completion from Brett Favre to set up the winning field goal against the Ravens to keep the Vikings undefeated on the season.*******

Until Friday.

WEEKEND SPORTS REVIEW ( 7th Edition )

CAVALIERS DERAIL THE BULLDOGS!

THE HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK had the Dorman Cavaliers defense forcing six Boiling Springs turnovers, and the Bulldogs defense could not stop Dorman's Charone Peake as the Dorman Cavaliers defeated the Boiling Springs Bulldogs 39 to 15. The Dorman defense also had two safeties in the game. Dorman WR Charone Peake had 6 receptions for 141 yards and two receiving TDs. Peake also had a 38 yard TD run on the first play of the 4th quarter. Boiling Springs, off to their best start in school history, failed their first big test on the big stage this season. The Bulldogs go home to face another surprise team the Mauldin Mavericks on Friday. Dorman goes to Duncan to face Byrnes.

THE COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK had the Clemson Tigers demolishing the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 38 to 3. Most people, especially Clemson fans want to know WHERE HAS THIS TEAM BEEN THAT PLAYED WAKE ON SATURDAY? The Tigers came out focused, physical and executed on offense for 4 quarters on Saturday against the Deacons. If the Tigers play with the kind of attitude and intensity that they played with on Saturday, they will be a serious factor in the ACC Atlantic Division race. The Tiger defense sacked Wake QB Riley Skinner 5 times and he was under intense pressure all game long. Skinner was held to 11 for 24 passing for 82 yards and 2 interceptions. CJ Spiller had 109 yards rushing on 9 carries and 2 TDs. One of Spiller's TDs was a 66 yard run. Kyle Parker was 10 for 17 passing for 132 yards and 1 TD. Parker also had 31 yards rushing on 7 carries and a 3 yard TD run. The Tigers will need this same kind of effort on Saturday as they travel to play 8th ranked Miami.

DID YOU KNOW? With his 66 yard TD run against Wake Forest, C.J. Spiller became the first ACC player to surpass 6,000 all-purpose yards for a career.

THE NFL GAME OF THE WEEK had the Minnesota Vikings defeating the Baltimore Ravens in a thriller 33 to 31. The Vikings almost blew the game when they let the Ravens erase a 17 point deficit with 10 minutes to play. Brett Favre hit Sidney Rice with a 58 yard completion to set up Ryan Longwell's game winning 31 yard field goal with 1:56 left in the game. The Vikings then watched as Baltimore's Steve Hauschka missed a 44 yard attempt for the win as time expired. The Vikings escaped and remain undefeated at 6 and 0. The Ravens have dropped 3 in a row after a 3 and 0 start to the season.

THE ARMCHAIR COACH went 11 and 9 in game predictions this past weekend. Total for season is 98 and 38 for a percentage of .721.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS over the weekend has the NY Yankees leading the ALCS 2 games to 0 over the LA Angels. The series resumes today in Los Angeles with the Yankees starting Andy Pettitte on the mound against the Angels Jared Weaver. The NLCS has the Philadelphia Phillies leading the LA Dodgers 2 games to 1 after the 11 to 0 thrashing they gave the Dodgers on Sunday. Game 4 of the series is tonight in Philadelphia. Joe Blanton starts for the Phillies against Randy Wolf for the Dodgers.

Until Wednesday.

SPORTS WEEKEND PREVIEW ( 7th Edition )

It's hard to believe, but we have another Sports Weekend here to enjoy. It seams like that exciting Jets and Dolphins game just ended. I guess I have just been living on the adrenaline from the excitement of the Dolphins last second victory over the Jets. The Dolphins wildcat offense sure looked good. Both of the young QBs looked very good as well. The future for the Jets and Dolphins looks very promising. So lets look at the weekend ahead and see what kind of excitement we can expect.

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK

Boiling Springs @ Dorman..... The Dorman Cavaliers had all they wanted and then some from the upstart Mauldin Mavericks last week. The Cavaliers were able to give Coach Dave Gutshall his 300th career win as a Head Coach. The Boiling Springs Bulldogs are off to their best start in school history at 7 and 0. The Bulldogs will get their first serious test this week to see just how good they really are. I'm sure the Boiling Springs players, coaches and fans have had this one circled on their calendar all season, so they could go out and prove just how good they are. I see this game as close for awhile, but the Cavaliers learned a lesson from the upstart Mauldin Mavericks last week and will have the intensity they will need to get an impressive win at home..... Dorman 34 Boiling Springs 17

OTHER HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Chesnee @ Broome..... This is always an interesting game. It looks like the Eagles are finding their rhythum on offense and should come home with a win..... Chesnee 27 Broome 21

Gaffney @ Nation Ford..... This is the second meeting between these two teams. The first was a lopsided win by Gaffney last season. The second meeting will be a lopsided win by Gaffney as well..... Gaffney 49 Nation Ford 16

Spartanburg @ Mauldin..... The Mavericks beat the Vikings for the first time last year and should do it again this year..... Mauldin 23 Spartanburg 16

Union County @ Chapman..... Union County has turned their season around after an 0 and 3 start. The turn continues..... Union County 20 Chapman 8

Whitmire @ Blacksburg..... The Wolverines come into Blacksburg and steals a victory from the home team..... Whitmire 26 Blacksburg 23

Greer @ Clinton..... Greer has been up and down this season. This week they will be down again..... Clinton 29 Greer 20

Byrnes @ Hillcrest..... How long will Byrnes keep their starters in this week? Longer than they need to. Game over by 2nd quarter..... Byrnes 56 Hillcrest 6

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK

Wake Forest @ Clemson..... The Clemson Tigers are chomping at the bit to get back on the field against an opponent. It has been two weeks since their meltdown at Maryland. Clemson's history has been when the Tigers have their backs to the wall they come out fighting. I expect that to happen this week. The Tigers will play their best game of the season, and it will take it, as Wake Forest has really been clicking on offense the last couple of weeks. Deacons QB Riley Skinner has passed for more than 360 yards each of the past two games. Skinner will present a very big challenge for the Clemson defense. I expect the Tigers to slow down the Deacons and leave Death Valley with a smile on their faces..... Clemson 27 Wake Forest 16

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES

Appalachian State @ Wofford..... The Terriers still remember that the Mountaineers put 70 points on the board last year. Wofford plays better this year but they come up short..... Appalachian State 31 Wofford 20

South Carolina @ Alabama..... The Gamecocks will hang around for a half, and the Tide will roll in the 2nd half..... Alabama 34 South Carolina 16

Texas vs Oklahoma at Dallas..... The Longhorns are still upset about Oklahoma playing for the National Championship last year even though they defeated the Sooners. They will make a statement..... Texas 34 Oklahoma 21

North Carolina State @ Boston College..... The Wolf Pack are in a must win situation and they will find a way to get it..... North Carolina State 24 Boston College 21

Georgia @ Vanderbilt..... The Bulldogs need this game in the worse kind of a way. It want be easy but they will get it..... Georgia 26 Vanderbilt 17

Virginia Tech @ Georgia Tech..... This battle between the Techs should be a dozy. The Hokies will get it done..... Virginia Tech 27 Georgia Tech 17

NFL GAME OF THE WEEK

Baltimore @ Minnesota..... The Ravens have dropped two in a row after a good start. The Vikings are one of five unbeatens left in the NFL. Ray Lewis against Brett Favre should be quiet a show. These two will meet again in Canton one day at the Hall of Fame. As for the game it should be a good one. The Ravens really need this game and I believe they will get it done..... Baltimore 20 Minnesota 17

OTHER NFL GAMES

Carolina @ Tampa Bay..... The Panthers got the monkey off their backs last week. They will keep the monkey on the Buccaneers back for one more week..... Carolina 27 Tampa Bay 17

Kansas City @ Washington..... This battle of the win less will end in a victory for the home team. Hail to the Redskins..... Washington 20 Kansas City 14

NY Giants @ New Orleans..... This battle between unbeatens will be won by the boys from the bayou..... New Orleans 26 NY Giants 23

Detroit @ Green Bay..... The Packers need this game if they are going to stay in the Division race. The Packer fans go home happy..... Green Bay 31 Detroit 14

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

The NLCS has Philadelphia Phillies vs LA Dodgers. The ALCS has LA Angels vs NY Yankees. Should be two very good series.

There is a lot of exciting sports this weekend. SO ENJOY.

Until Monday.

GENERAL VIEWS ( 6th Edition )

David Letterman has his Top 10 that he does every night on his Late Show. The College coaches have their Top 25 polls in athletics. The BCS has it's Top 20 in College football. Everyone seems to have their opinion about everything. The ArmChair Coach is unveiling the TOP 5 feature in today's blog. At various times I will give a TOP 5 on a variety of sports topics. I would very much like to hear your feed back and your Top 5. Today's TOP 5 is about over-rated athletes.

THE ARMCHAIR COACH'S TOP 5 OVER-RATED ATHLETES

5. Allen Iverson..... Has had a 13 year career in the NBA. He started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers. He has also played the last couple of seasons with the Denver Nuggets and the Detroit Pistons. It was with the 76ers that Allen Iverson had his best years. He led the NBA in scoring 4 times. Iverson has a career scoring average of 27.1 per game. He scores a lot of points, but my reasons for rating him at NO. 5 on my list are as follows. (1) He shoots the ball way to much for my liking. His career shooting percentage is .425. Which is NOT GOOD! (2) He does not make his teammates better. This is probably the main reason that he hasn't won an NBA Championship. (3) He is not a good teammate. He can be a TEAM CANCER. To Allen Iverson, it is all about Allen Iverson. (4) Has a history of not getting along with his Head Coach. This is my argument why Allen Iverson is NO. 5 on the list.

4. Terrell Owens..... Is in his 14th season in the NFL. Most of his stats are very good, 963 career pass receptions, 14, 324 career receiving yards, 14.9 average per reception, and 140 TDs. The reasons that I put Terrell Owens on my list are (1) Routinely leads the NFL in drops. (2) He is a CANCER to a team. It's all about Terrell Owens to Terrell Owens. (3) He disrupts team chemistry with his attitude. (4) He is a legend in his own mind. He thinks he is the only one the QB should throw the ball to, and this leads to (5) He has bad relationships with his starting QBs. The NFL media raves about Terrell Owens, like he is the next Jesus Christ. I DON'T SEE IT! These are my reasons for Terrell Owens being on the list.

3. Tony Romo..... Is in his 4th season as starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys. He has a career completion percentage of 63 percent. Romo has 87 career TD passes and 50 interceptions. His career QB rating is 93.8. These are some pretty good numbers for a starting QB in the NFL. The reasons that I have Tony Romo on my list are (1) The NFL media builds him up as one of the top 4 or 5 QBs in the NFL. He is not there yet. (2) He usually chokes at some point in big games. Which brings me to (3) Tony Romo has not won a playoff game as starting QB of the Dallas Cowboys. In my opinion, you should not be talked about as one of the top QBs in the NFL, until you can at least win a playoff game. NFL QBs are paid to win in the playoffs. (4) He is very inconsistent. This season his QB rating is 113.7 in games the Cowboys won, and 50.3 in games they lost. These are my reasons for Tony Romo being on my list.

2. Willy Korn..... Was rated as the NO. 5 QB in the Nation as a senior at Byrnes High School. He put up some mind boggling numbers while he was at Byrnes. Korn passed for 10,646 yards and 123 TDs. He led the Rebels to 2 State Championships as starting QB. Willy Korn signed with the Clemson Tigers out of high school and was touted as a great fit for the Clemson offense. It has not worked out to well for Korn at Clemson. The little that he played as a true freshman, he struggled big time. Then he was injured and had to take a medical red shirt. Korn was expected to play more as a red shirt freshman and was named the stater for the Georgia Tech game in 2008. Willy Korn was injured again in the Georgia Tech game and didn't play again the rest of the season. The injuries have definitely taken a toll on Korn and has held him back. The reason that I have Willy Korn as NO. 2 on my list is he got so much hype coming out of High School, by the local media in the upstate, and especially by the fans of Byrnes, that he would have had to be a 4 year All American and Heisman trophy winner to have lived up to the hype that he received. There has never been a 4 year All American QB in College football. He had to be over-rated.

1. Dale Earnhardt Jr..... Started his Nascar career as a rookie in 1999. Things looked very promising early as he was Ranked NO. 3 in both 2003 and 2004. Dale Jr. has a total of 18 wins on the Nascar circuit in his career. Dale Jr. won 6 races in the 2004 season and looked to be the favorite to win a Points Championship sooner rather than later. Starting with the 2005 season Dale Jr. has been going backwards in his career as he has only 3 wins in the last 5 Nascar seasons. He has only 2 poles and 36 top 5 finishes. Dale Jr's average starting position since 2005 is 18th. His average finish position is 17th. This 2009 season, Dale Jr's 2nd season with Hendrick Motorsports, has seen the slide of his career continue at an alarming rate. In 30 starts Dale Jr. has 0 wins, 0 poles, 2 top 5 finishes and only 5 top 10 finishes. Yet Dale Earnhardt Jr. continues to be far and away the sports favorite driver. The reason I have Dale Earnhardt Jr. as my NO. 1 most over-rated athlete is HE IS LIVING ON THE EARNHARDT NAME! He is not a Nascar Superstar that fans and media make him out to be. So far a lot of potential wasted.

This concludes the first ArmChair Coach TOP 5. Let me know what you think.

********THE ARMCHAIR COACH GAME BALL OF THE WEEK GOES TO DALLAS WR MILES AUSTIN. HE HAD 10 CATCHES FOR 250 YARDS AND 2 TDS. HE WAS FILLING IN FOR THE INJURED ROY WILLIAMS.********

The ArmChair Coach went 17 and 3 in game predictions this past weekend. Total for season is 87 and 29 for a percentage of .750.

Until Friday.

SPORTS WEEKEND REVIEW ( 6th Edition )

PANTHERS RALLY FOR WIN!

The Carolina Panthers got the monkey off of their backs with a come from behind victory over the Washington Redskins. Trailing 17 to 2 late in the 3rd quarter, Jake Delhomme threw a 17 yard TD pass to Jeff King to get the rally started. Early in the 4th quarter John Kasey kicked a 43 yard field goal to make the score 17 to 12. The Redskins muffed a punt to give the Panthers great field position, and two plays later Jonathon Stewart scored from 8 yards out to give Carolina the lead for the first time in the game. The Panthers got a two point conversion to make the score 20 to 17. The Panther's defense forced a Washington punt and was able to run out the clock. A key play for the Panthers was a 3rd and 8 bootleg run by Delhomme to get a first down, so all Carolina had to do was kneel down a couple of times to clinch their first win of the season.

DID YOU KNOW? The Carolina Panthers are in their 15th NFL season, and they have never had two winning seasons in a row.

THE HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK had the Dorman Cavaliers giving Head Coach Dave Gutshall his 300th career win in a hard fought defensive battle against the Mauldin Mavericks 14 to 12. Mauldin had a 6 to 0 lead until Dorman grabbed their first lead of the game at the 8:16 mark of the 3rd quarter. The Cavaliers increased their lead to 14 to 6 in the 4th quarter with a 42 yard TD run by QB Johnny Foster. Mauldin scored to make the score 14 to 12, but missed the two point conversion that would have tied the game. The Cavaliers then held on for a hard fought victory over the surprising Mauldin Mavericks. Dorman goes home to play unbeaten Boiling Springs this coming Friday night.

THE COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK had the Florida Gators winning a defensive battle against LSU 13 to 3. Tim Tebow started the game and was 11 of 16 passing for 134 yards and 1 TD pass and 1 interception. Tebow also ran the ball 17 times for 38 yards. This was far from Tebow's best game, but it was enough because of the Gators dominating defensive performance. The LSU offense only gained 162 yards for the game. The Florida Gators will host the Arkansas Razorbacks this coming Saturday.

DID YOU KNOW? The 93,129 fans in attendance for Saturdays game against Florida, was the most in the history of Tiger Stadium.

THE NFL GAME OF THE WEEK had the surprising Denver Broncos defeating the New England Patriots 20 to 17 in overtime. Denver QB Kyle Orton passed for 330 yards and two TD's and he drove the Broncos offense 98 yards to tie the game and send it to overtime. Matt Prater then kicked a 41 yard field goal to win the game in overtime to give Broncos rookie Head Coach Josh McDaniels a win over his old boss Bill Bellichick

THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS had the LA Dodgers sweeping the Cardinals to reach the NLCS. The Philadelphia Phillies have a 2 to 1 lead in their series with the Colorado Rockies. In the American League, the ALCS is set with the NY Yankees and LA Angels both sweeping their series.

THE NASCAR RACE FOR THE CUP had Jimmie Johnson winning the Pepsi 500 and jumping over Mark Martin for the points lead. Johnson has a 12 point lead in the Chase.

Until Wednesday.

SPORTS WEEKEND PREVIEW ( 6th Edition )

DODGERS RALLY IN 9TH

Cardinals Left Fielder Matt Holliday could have sent the Cardinals and Dodgers to St. Louis tied at a game a piece, but he dropped a line drive that would have been the final out of the game. The error opened the door for another dramatic Dodger win in their last at bat. Ronnie Belliard had a RBI single to tie the game and then pinch hitter Mark Loretta singled in the winning run off of All-Star closer Ryan Franklin to give the Dodgers a commanding 2 game to 0 lead in their best of five NLDS series. The series heads to St. Louis with the Cardinals in a must win situation.

DID YOU KNOW? The Dodgers had 22 last at bat victories during the regular season, which was tops in the National league.

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK

Dorman @ Mauldin..... The Dorman Cavaliers expected to be undefeated at this time of the season, the Mauldin Mavericks did not. This sets up a clash between undefeated teams on the Golden Strip tonight at Mauldin High School. This will definitely be a measuring stick for the Mauldin program that is off to their best start since starting 5 and 1 in 1980. The Mavericks have been the surprise team in the upstate this High School season. Mauldin is averaging 52 points a game on offense so far, but faces their biggest test in the very strong defense of the Dorman Cavaliers. Dorman's defense is only giving up 10 points a game. The Dorman offense is pretty good as well, averaging 40 points a game. Dorman is use to playing big games, as they defeated Byrnes last season, Mauldin is not. I see Dorman's defense and experience being the difference in this game as the Cavaliers prevail..... Dorman 34 Mauldin 16

OTHER HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

York @ Gaffney..... The Indians come home to The Reservation after going 1 and 1 on a tough two game road trip. The Indians enjoy the home cooking..... Gaffney 38 York 13

Palmetto @ Woodruff..... The 2A top ranked Wolverines should roll in this game and they will..... Woodruff 48 Palmetto 14

Carolina @ Chesnee..... The Eagles got back on track last week against Palmetto and will keep the track going in the right direction against an improved Carolina team..... Chesnee 45 Carolina 19

Boiling Springs @ Hillcrest..... The Bulldogs best start in school history should get one game better tonight..... Boiling Springs 31 Hillcrest 17

Lewisville @ Chesterfield..... This should be another big win for the Number 1 ranked team in 1A, the Chesterfield Rams..... Chesterfield 34 Lewisville 12

Spartanburg @ Byrnes..... The Rebels will bounce back after their disappointing loss to St. Thomas Aquinas..... Byrnes 45 Spartanburg 7

Chapman @ Greer..... This will be a close hard fought game. I see the home standing Yellow Jackets pulling it out late..... Greer 27 Chapman 21

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK

Florida @ LSU..... This epic battle has the teams that have won the last three National Championships. The questions that I have about this game is, will Tim Tebow play and how effective he will be? How good is LSU? I believe they are good, but they are not the Number 4 team in the country. If Tebow plays and is the Tim Tebow that we know and love, Florida wins big. I believe Tebow will play, but he will not be 100%. The LSU Tigers are always tough to beat in night games at home but the Gators find away to get it done..... Florida 27 LSU 17

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES

Kentucky @ South Carolina..... Steve Spurrier has never lost to Kentucky. This could be a trap game for the Gamecocks with Alabama looming over the horizon. The game is going to be close as the Gamecocks keep their coach undefeated against the Wildcats.....South Carolina 30 Kentucky 21

Boston College @ Virginia Tech..... The Hokies had a lackluster performance in their win against Duke last week. They will have to play better this week and will..... Virginia Tech 33 Boston College 14

Georgia Tech @ Florida State..... The Yellow Jackets have never won at Florida State. Until now..... Georgia Tech 28 Florida State 20

Maryland @ Wake Forest..... The Demon Deacons are coming off big win against NC State and will hold serve at home against the Terps..... Wake Forest 27 Maryland 14

Duke @ NC State..... The Blue Devils played very well against Virginia Tech last week. I believe they play well this week, but lose another close one..... NC State 24 Duke 20

Alabama @ Mississippi..... This is a must win for Ole Miss if they are going to win SEC West. They play pretty well but come up short..... Alabama 28 Ole Miss 14

NFL GAME OF THE WEEK

New England @ Denver..... The Patriots seam to be getting it together on offense. Tom Brady is getting more comfortable in the pocket. This is not good for the rest of the teams in the NFL. The Broncos are a very surprising team to this point in the NFL season. Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels coaches against his old mentor Bill Bellichick in this game and will suffer his first loss as a Head Coach..... New England 27 Denver 13

OTHER NFL GAMES

Dallas @ Kansas City..... Which Cowboys team will show up for this game? The one that keeps the Chiefs win-less..... Dallas 31 Kansas City 16

Washington @ Carolina..... If the Panthers are going to salvage their season, they have to win this game. They find away to get it done..... Carolina 20 Washington 17

Cincinnati @ Baltimore..... Surprise surprise this game is for first place in AFC North. Not a surprise, the Bengals come back down to earth..... Baltimore 31 Cincinnati 17

NY Jets @ Miami..... The Dolphins got their first win last week. I believe the Dolphins will upset the Jets this week..... Miami 17 NY Jets 10

The Major League Baseball Playoffs continue over the weekend and should be very good as well.
Enjoy your sports weekend.

Until Monday.

GENERAL VIEWS ( 5th Edition )

I would like to take a look at the Clemson Tigers football program, after the debacle in Maryland this past Saturday. The Tigers have a 2 and 3 record 1 and 2 in the ACC. Clemson fans are not satisfied and shouldn't be, but there should not be panic either. I am a huge Clemson fan myself and I am frustrated at the thought that the Tigers, if they make a play here, make a stop on defense there, could be 5 and 0 and 3 and 0 in the ACC. The reality of the situation is they are not and I am going to give my opinion on why they are where they are at this time. Coming into this season the Tigers had an inexperienced Head Coach, that had never even been a coordinator, an Offensive Coordinator that was young and inexperienced as well. The Tigers receivers coach is in his first year as a full time college Assistant coach. The Tigers are starting a red-shirt Freshman at QB, who at times has looked okay, but is still learning to play QB at the Division 1 level. The Tigers have had some break downs on defense and special teams this season as well, but where has the major problem area been? THE OFFENSE!! All of the inexperience on the offensive side of the ball, coaches inconsistent play calling, inconsistent execution by the QB and receivers and still question marks on the offensive line, has been the biggest areas of concern. With all of this on the job training going on, I hate to say it, the Clemson Tigers are where I expected them to be, record wise, at this point in the season. It would have been a miracle for all of these question marks to fall into place right out of the gate. I saw this season as a rebuilding year with the team and coaching staff making mistakes, but learning from their mistakes and getting better as the season continued to unfold. I still look for this to happen. I don't know how many games the Tigers will win, but I do look for improvement in the coaching staff and players as the season continues. So if you are a Clemson fan or not, DON'T GIVE UP, sit back and watch as the Tigers young coaching staff and players grow up into the kind of coaches and players that you expect to have. The ride has been bumpy and will have a few more bumps, but the road will get smooth if you WILL BE PATIENT! So lets be patient and enjoy the ride together.

The ArmChair Coach went 13 and 10 in picks this past weekend and my record for the season is 70 and 26 for a percentage of .729.

*****The ArmChair Coach Game Ball Of The Week goes to Brett Favre for his 3 TD pass performance in Minnesota's 30 to 23 win against Favre's old team the Green Bay Packers******

DID YOU KNOW? With Brett Favre's victory over the Green Bay Packers he is the only NFL QB to have beaten all of the current NFL teams.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL playoff match-ups have Colorado Rockies vs Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals vs LA Dodgers in the National League. The American League has Minnesota Twins vs NY Yankees and Boston Red Sox vs LA Angels. I look for the Phillies and Cardinals to win the National League series and Yankees and Red Sox to win American League series.

DID YOU KNOW? When the Twins came back from 3 games back with 4 games to play to catch the Detroit Tigers and win the American League Central. They became the first team in Baseball to accomplish this feat.

Until Friday.

SPORTS WEEKEND REVIEW ( 5th Edition )

INDIANS HOLD OFF VIKINGS!

The Gaffney Indians, led by QB D'Edward Burris passing for one TD and rushing for another TD, shown in photo, and a defense that bent but did not break, defeated the Spartanburg Vikings 14 to 7 this past Friday night at Wofford College's Gibbs Stadium. The Indian's defense forced 4 Viking turnovers and had two late defensive stands to preserve the victory. The Indians return home to The Reservation on Friday night to face York. The Vikings travel to Duncan to play the mighty Byrnes Rebels.

DID YOU KNOW? Gaffney Head Coach Phil Strickland has a 6 and 2 record against Spartanburg in his 7 years at Gaffney.

DID YOU KNOW? Spartanburg leads the overall series with Gaffney 49-40-3.

THE HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK had St. Thomas Aquinas defeating the Byrnes Rebels 42 to 34. The Nationally 2nd Ranked Rebels out gained the Nationally 1st Ranked St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders 558 yards to 303 yards. Byrnes lost 3 fumbles that led to 14 points by the Raiders. St. Thomas was very opportunistic as they scored on plays of 52, 73, 40, 12, 93, and 23 yards. Three of the Raider's scores came on 3rd down plays, one on a fumble return and one on a kickoff return. Byrnes QB Chas Dodd had a big game as he hit 26 of 44 passes for 416 yards and 3 TD's. Highly touted Byrnes RB Marcus Lattimore had 122 yards rushing on 23 carries and 2 TD's. Lattimore also had three costly fumbles. The game was very much worthy of the hype that it received. Byrnes goes home to Duncan to face Spartanburg on Friday night.

DID YOU KNOW? The game between Byrnes and St. Thomas Aquinas is just the forth meeting all-time between the top ranked teams in the National High School Poll.

THE COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK had the Auburn Tigers going into Knoxville, Tennessee and defeating the Tennessee Volunteers 26 to 22. Auburn QB Chris Todd threw for 218 yards and a TD and Ben Tate rushed for 128 yards and a TD to lead the Auburn offense. The Tigers continue to be a surprise team in the SEC this season as they improve to 5 and 0 and 2 and 0 in the SEC. The Volunteers fell to 2 and 3 and 0 and 2 in the SEC.

THE NFL GAME OF THE WEEK had the NY Jets and rookie QB Mark Sanchez losing to the New Orleans Saints 24 to 10. The tough Jets defense contained the high scoring Saints offense holding Drew Brees to 190 passing yards and no TDs. The Saints defense picked off 3 Mark Sanchez passes, one which was returned 99 yards for a TD. The Saints defense also recovered a Jets fumble in the end zone for a score. The Saints remain undefeated and the Jets lose their first game of the season.

TONY STEWART WINS the Nascar race in Kansas City. Stewart's win very much keeps his title hopes alive as he is 67 points out of the lead.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL has the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins ending up in a tie for the American League Central Division race. The Tigers and Twins play a 1-game playoff for the Central Title on Tuesday in Minnesota.

Until Wednesday.

SPORTS WEEKEND PREVIEW ( 5th Edition )

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
Byrnes @ St. Thomas Aquinas..... You don't get No. 1 vs No. 2 in the Nation in High School football very often but you have this showdown in the sunshine state. Byrnes is two time defending South Carolina 4A Division 1 State Champions with a 34 and 1 record the last 2 1/2 seasons. St. Thomas Aquinas is two time defending Florida 5A State Champions with a 27 game winning streak. Both teams are loaded with Division 1 college talent and speed to burn. Byrnes is a public school with approximate enrollment of 1,790 students. St. Thomas Aquinas is a private school with approximate enrollment of 2,100 students. St Thomas recruits and offers scholarships as many private schools do. The question is can a public school like Byrnes compete with a private school that recruits their players like St. Thomas? I really believe the Rebels can play with these guys but I see St. Thomas winning a close one..... St. Thomas 34 Byrnes 28
OTHER HIGH SCHOOL GAMES
Gaffney @ Spartanburg..... The most storied rivalry in South Carolina High School football.
Gaffney Indians vs Spartanburg Vikings, NUFF SAID..... Gaffney 24 Spartanburg 21
Fort Mill @ Boiling Springs..... The Bulldogs win big in their final non-region tune-up of the season..... Boiling Springs 45 Fort Mill 6
Indian Land @ Chesterfield..... The Rams try to continue their shut out streak as they celebrate Homecoming, they do just that..... Chesterfield 29 Indian Land 0
Mauldin @ Easley..... The Mauldin Mavericks have been one of the surprises of the High School season. The Mavericks stay unbeaten..... Mauldin 44 Easley 13
Chesnee @ Palmetto..... The Eagles try to bounce back from two tough home losses against Nation Ford and Chapman. They do just that..... Chesnee 20 Palmetto 14
Laurens @ Dorman..... The Cavaliers roll against the win less Raiders in their last non-region game of the season..... Dorman 48 Laurens 13
Blacksburg @ Dixie..... The Wildcats have played better against strong competition and should get a win on the road against a win less Dixie team..... Blacksburg 26 Dixie 16
Greer @ Union County..... This battle between Yellow Jackets is always a hard fought game. This years edition should be as well..... Greer 27 Union County 17
COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK
Auburn @ Tennessee..... The Auburn Tigers have been a pleasant surprise this season. The Tigers offense has been unstoppable so far this young season, with its up tempo style that has led to lots of points. Tennessee has a pretty good defense and they are playing at home which means allot. Tennessee will slow down the Auburn express, but I don't think the Volunteers offense will be able to score enough points to win the game. Auburn shows that they are for real with a big road victory in the SEC..... Auburn 27 Tennessee 23
OTHER COLLEGE GAMES
Clemson @ Maryland..... The Tigers need to get their offense going to help out their defense. They will make some improvement this week and they get a much needed win..... Clemson 30 Maryland 13
South Carolina State @ South Carolina..... The Gamecocks will have a let down after big win over Ole Miss. Carolina will pull away in the 2nd half for the win..... South Carolina 34 South Carolina State 10
North Carolina State @ Wake Forest.....This is a big game in the ACC Atlantic Division. The Wolfpack should get a big road win..... North Carolina State 28 Wake Forest 20
Georgia Southern @ Wofford..... Both of these teams need this game. I see the Eagles getting revenge for last year..... Georgia Southern 23 Wofford 21
Virginia Tech @ Duke..... The Hokies got their offense rolling last week in their big win over Miami. They keep it rolling this week against the Blue Devils..... Virginia Tech 35 Duke 14
LSU @ Georgia..... The Tigers are ranked No. 4 in the nation. I believe they are over-rated and the Bulldogs will win between the hedges..... Georgia 26 LSU 20
Virginia @ North Carolina..... The Cavaliers are bad, the Tar Heels are mad about losing last week..... North Carolina 32 Virginia 10
NFL GAME OF THE WEEK
New York Jets @ New Orleans..... The Jets with their great defense and rookie QB Mark Sanchez has been a surprise team in the NFL so far this season. The Saints and their QB Drew Brees has the NFL's most potent offense to date. So which wins, great defense or great offense? In this game, I see the Jets slowing down the Saints offense, but not scoring enough points with a rookie QB to win the game..... New Orleans 24 NY Jets 13
OTHER NFL GAMES
Dallas @ Denver..... The Broncos are undefeated, but they are not that good. Dallas gets the road win..... Dallas 27 Denver 10
Buffalo @ Miami..... The Dolphins need a win after starting season 0 and 3. It won't be this week after losing QB Chad Pennington to injury..... Buffalo 23 Miami 14
San Diego @ Pittsburg..... The Steelers have dropped 2 in a row and are scratching their heads. The World Champs bounce back at home..... Pittsburg 20 San Diego 17
Baltimore @ New England..... The Ravens have shown this season that they have an offense to go with their defense. Baltimore gets big win on the road..... Baltimore 24 New England 17
Green Bay @ Minnesota..... The game Brett Favre has been looking for, as he faces the Packers. I look for Favre to be to pumped for this game and he throws a late interception that cost the Vikings..... Green Bay 23 Minnesota 21
I would like to start a new feature on The ArmChair Coach this week. It is called The ArmChair Coach Game Ball of the Week. I will pick a player or team that had a game worthy of getting a game ball. Starting next week it will be included in Wednesday's blog.
****************** The ArmChair Coach Game Ball Of The Week goes to the Detroit Lions for snapping their 19 game NFL losing streak********************************
Let me hear from you. Do you agree with me ?
Until Monday
