SUPER BOWL XLVI PREVIEW

I always have mixed emotions come Super Bowl time. It is the biggest football game of them all but, it is also the last football game of the season as well. Since I don't have a team that I root for in the game this year, it is even more depressing that the season is coming to a close. We have a rematch, from a few season's back, when the NY Giants upset the undefeated New England Patriots. Each one of these teams have won three Super Bowls and it will be the forth for the winner. It has a chance to be a pretty good football game.

The ArmChair Coach went 2 and 0 in the Conference Championship Game picks. My record for the season is 156 and 56 for a percentage of .736. Let's look at the Super Bowl Preview.

SUPER BOWL XLVI

New York Giants vs New England Patriots..... If you just look at the two teams stats and records from the regular season, the game should be a mismatch in favor of the Patriots. The Giants had a 9 and 7 record and had to win their last two games to win the NFC Eastern Division just to get in the playoffs. They scored 394 points for an average of 24.6 per game and they gave up 400 points for an average of 25.0 per game. It makes you scratch your head when you see the Giants in the Super Bowl after giving up more points than they scored during the regular season.

The Patriots went 13 and 3 during the regular season with one of their losses to the Giants. They had one of the best offenses in the NFL during the season scoring 513 points for an average of 32.1 per game. Their defense was 31st out of 32 teams in total yardage given up and they gave up 342 points for an average of 21.4 per game. They won the AFC East Division easily over the NY Jets.

I can't just look at the regular season to make my pick of the Super Bowl winner. The Giants remind me very much of the Green Bay Packers of last season. The Packers had to win their last three games to get into the playoffs as a wild card. They did it and they made their run through the playoffs and Super Bowl to become Super Bowl Champions. The Giants and Patriots both have big game QBs in Eli Manning and Tom Brady. The Patriots have a suspect defense and a great offense. The Giants defense has played lights out during the playoffs and their offense has been pretty good as well. Both Head Coaches are Bill Parcells disciples and they will be prepared to play.

Game Prediction..... Tom Brady is probably the best big game QB in the NFL right now but, the Giants look to much like the Packers from last season and they are peeking at just the right time..... New York Giants 27 New England Patriots 23

DID YOU KNOW? The Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with 6. The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have both won 5. The Green Bay Packers 4 and the New York Giants and New England Patriots 3 each.

My next edition of The ArmChair Coach will be on Friday February 10th as I will look at College Football's National Signing Day.

Until Next Time.
