DOWN TO THE FINAL FOUR!

College basketball's March Madness is down to the Final Four. The Final Four will be held in New Orleans and the National Semifinals are Saturday. The National Championship Game will be Monday April 2nd. Let's look at the match-ups and I will tell you who I think will come away with the National Championship.

SATURDAY'S NATIONAL SEMIFINALS

Louisville vs Kentucky..... These two schools and their fan bases don't like each other. Louisville's Head Coach Rick Pittino used to coach Kentucky. Louisville is the highest seed to make the Final Four at a number 4. Kentucky is the only number 1 seed to make the Final Four. Both teams are playing very well but, I see Kentucky beating Louisville and making the Finals.

Ohio State vs Kansas..... Both of these teams are number 2 seeds and beat the number 1's in their regional to get to the Final Four. Ohio State beat Syracuse and Kansas beat North Carolina. This should be a very good game and I see Kansas beating Ohio State to make the Finals.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

I have predicted a Kentucky vs Kansas National Championship Game. If it comes down to these two teams, it will be a College basketball championship game between two tradition rich programs. I hope it does because I would like to see it. I am predicting a National Championship for Kentucky!!

It will be fun to see how it plays out and to see if my predictions come true. It will be very exciting.

My next blog on The ArmChair Coach will be on April 20th.

Until Next Time.

2012 SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONS CROWNED!

It has been another interesting and exciting High School basketball season in South Carolina. It came to an end with the Weekend of Champions at the Colonial Life Arena on the campus of the University of South Carolina. Finally some good basketball was played at this arena this season. Let's look at the winners.

4A Boys Lexington vs Gaffney..... The Gaffney Indians rallied from seven points down with a little over 2:00 to play to force overtime, when sophomore wing L.J. Peak hit two free throws with 7 seconds left to tie it at 50. The Indians went on to win the game 58 to 55 in overtime. The Indians finish with a record of 23 and 5. This is Gaffney's second Title in three years and their fifth in ten years. For a more in depth recap of this game, click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

4A Girls Dutch Fork vs Orangeburg-Wilkinson..... The Dutch Fork Lady Silver Foxes won their first State Championship with a 61 to 29 victory over the Lady Bruins of Orangeburg-Wilkinson. It was all Lady Foxes as their record finishes 26 and 3.

3A Boys Hartsville vs Southside..... The Hartsville Red Foxes won their first basketball State Championship with a 69 to 56 victory over Southside. This was Hartsville's second appearance in the State Championship game and their first since 1952. The Red Foxes finished 23 and 6.

3A Girls Dreher vs Wade Hampton..... Kaydra Duckett scored 20 points to lead Dreher to their first State Championship since 2002. They defeated Wade Hampton's Lady Generals 82 to 50.

2A Boys North Charleston vs Newberry..... North Charleston opened the game on an 18 to 0 run but, they had to withstand a furious rally by Newberry to win the 2A Boys State Championship 49 to 48. Newberry missed a shot at the buzzer that would have won the game.

2A Girls Bishop England vs Columbia..... The Bishop England girls capped off an unbeaten season with a comeback victory over Columbia. They pulled out a 43 to 41 victory over Columbia to finish the season 28 and 0.

1A Boys Great Falls vs Johnsonville..... Great Falls had all five starters in double figures, as they won a record 10th 1A State Basketball Championship. They defeated Johnsonville 79 to 61 to finish the season 27 and 1.

1A Girls Timmonsville vs Abbeville..... Timmonsville won their second 1A State Basketball Championship with a convincing 50 to 37 victory over Abbeville. Sophomore guard Sade Eli scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the victory.

DID YOU KNOW? The Gaffney Indians have now won 6 State Championships in boys basketball in school history. The first was in 1949 and they have won 5 State Championships under Head Coach Mark Huff since 2003. They had a three-peat from 2003-2005 and they won in 2010 and 2012. They also have a runner-up in 2009.

The next edition of The ArmChair Coach will be on March 23rd.
