Week 12 of the football season has come and gone. The teams that I pull for had mixed results. The Gaffney Indians won their first round playoff game, the Clemson Tigers pounded the Terps but, my NFL teams were 0 and 2 with Carolina and Miami both losing and the Green Bay Packers had their bye week. We sure had a shake up at the top of the BCS Poll with Alabama losing at home to Texas A&M. I am hoping for a Kansas State vs Oregon National Championship Game. How fun would that be with no SEC team playing for the title?

I went 7 and 3 in my football picks last week. My record is 81 and 39 for 68% for the season. Let's look at this weeks picks.

WEEK 10 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

The things that I took from last week's football games were Riverside is probably the worst 4A team that I have seen play, South Carolina gift wrapped three first half TDs for Florida and the Green Bay Packers are finally beginning to put it together and play like they are suppose to. It is hard to believe that we are this far along in the football season. The High School regular season is just about over, as they are getting ready for the playoffs to begin in a couple of weeks. The College season is over half way done and the NFL season is in week 8 this week. Time sure does fly when you are having fun.

I went 7 and 3 in my football picks last week. My record is 59 and 31 for the season for 66%. Let's look at this week's picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Gaffney @ Boiling Springs..... These two teams met twice last season with the Tribe winning both times big. The Bulldogs always seem to play Gaffney tough especially at home. This game should go down to the 4th quarter..... Gaffney 24  Boiling Springs 20
For a more in depth preview of this game click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Blacksburg @ Powdersville..... The Wildcats are coming off of a disappointing loss to Chesnee last week. This is the last time that Powdersville will have to get their programs first varsity win. They will have to wait untill next season..... Blacksburg 34  Powdersville 14

Byrnes @ Dorman..... The winner of this game will be the Region 2 4A champs if Gaffney loses again this season. It should be a 4th quarter game..... Byrnes 31  Dorman 23

Crescent @ Chesnee..... The Eagles won the Region Championship last week with their win over Blacksburg. They must guard against a letdown against the Tigers..... Chesnee 27  Crescent 16

COLLEGE GAMES

Tennessee @ South Carolina..... The Gamecocks are back home licking their wounds from two tough road losses. They should start getting well..... South Carolina 27  Tennessee 14

Florida vs Georgia..... The worlds largest cocktail party should be a pretty good one. The winner will probably be the SEC East Champions..... Florida 24  Georgia 14

Notre Dame @ Oklahoma..... Will the luck of the Irish continue this week? I see it running out and them coming back down to earth..... Oklahoma 28  Notre Dame 17

NFL GAMES

Carolina @ Chicago..... The Panthers just can't win a close ball game. They will have another chance this week but, they will loose another one..... Chicago 20  Carolina 17

Jacksonville @ Green Bay..... The Packers seem to be getting it together. They should roll this week against the Jags..... Green Bay 34  Jacksonville 13

Miami @ NY Jets..... Can the surprising Dolphins win again? I say why not..... Miami 20  NY Jets 18

DID YOU KNOW? If the Gaffney Indians win this week @ Boiling Springs and next week @ home against Spartanburg they will be Region 2 4A Champions. They hold the tiebreaker over Byrnes and Dorman because of wins over them.

Until Next Time.

WEEK 9 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

Week 8 of the football season had some very surprising results. In High School games, the upset of the week was Gaffney beating Nationally 3rd Ranked Byrnes 22 to 18 at The Reservation. Spartanburg defeated Boiling Springs 20 to 17 in overtime and a struggling Clinton team defeated Union County. In College games, Oklahoma blew out Texas and LSU knocked off South Carolina. In the NFL, the Green Bay Packers got back on track by beating unbeaten Houston.

With all of the upsets last weekend I went 4 and 6 in my football picks last week. My record for the season is 52 and 28 for 65%. Let's look at this weeks games.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Gaffney @ Riverside..... The Indians are coming off their huge win over Byrnes. Where will their emotions be? The Warriors are a struggling football team but, they realize that an undermanned Wade Hampton team upset Gaffney three weeks ago. I think the Indians will be a little flat but, they willwin big..... Gaffney 42  Riverside 0
For a more in depth preview of this game click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Chesnee @ Blacksburg..... This is a huge football game for both of these programs. Neither team has won a Region Championship for several years. The winner of this game will win the Region Championship. Should be a good one..... Blacksburg 20  Chesnee 17

Easley @ Greenwood..... This is a huge game in Region 1 4A. The Eagles have dominated this region for several seasons and they should move one step closer to winning it again..... Greenwood 24  Easley 14

Dorman @ Boiling Springs..... The Cavaliers have been on a roll since their loss to Gaffney. The Bulldogs are coming off of overtime loss to Spartanburg. Should be a good one..... Dorman 27  Boiling Springs 21

Kansas State @ West Virginia..... Huge game in the Big 12. Unbeaten Wildcats are rolling and the Mountaineers are coming off first loss of the season. I see the Mountaineers getting back on track at home..... West Virginia 28  Kansas State 24

NFL GAMES

Dallas @ Carolina..... The Panthers are 1 and 4 but, they have lost three games buy a total of twelve points. Dallas has been Dallas a team that continues to underachieve..... Carolina 23  Dallas 20

Green Bay @ St. Louis..... The Packers played like the Packers last week and they have a chance to string together some wins and get back into their divisional race..... Green Bay 31  St. Louis 21

Baltimore @ Houston..... The Ravens are a very injured football team. The Texans are coming off loss to the Packers. I see the Texans bouncing back this week..... Houston 17  Baltimore 13

Until Next Time.

WEEK 8 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

The theme for last weeks football games should be STATEMENT WEEK. The Gaffney Indians made a statement with their win over Mauldin, that they aren't dead yet. The Chesnee Eagles made the statement that they are the team to beat in their region. The South Carolina Gamecocks made a statement that they are a serious SEC Title contender, with their blow out of Georgia. The Clemson Tigers made a statement that they are not dead in their quest to win the ACC Atlantic Division, with their win over Georgia Tech. The Carolina Panthers made a statement that they are not a good football team right now after falling to 1 and 4 after losing to Seattle.

I had another strong week in my football picks last week going 7 and 3. My record for the season is 48 and 22. I have been 69% right in my picks for the season thus far. Let's look at this weeks picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Byrnes @ Gaffney..... As fans of these two schools know this is a very heated rivalry. The Indians have won two of the last three meetings but, the one they lost was the State Championship Game last December. They haven't forgotten the hurt and they will be inspired to play Friday night. The Indians will play well but, they will come up short..... Byrnes 28  Gaffney 14
For a more in depth preview of this match up, click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Blacksburg @ Landrum..... The Wildcats are playing very well right now. A win here will put them up against Chesnee next week for the Region Championship. NUFF SAID..... Blacksburg 27  Landrum 20

continues..... Boiling Springs 27  Spartanburg 21

North Carolina @ Miami..... The Hurricanes are horrible on the road and pretty good at home. They are at home this week..... Miami 28  North Carolina 21

NFL GAME
St. Louis @ Miami..... The Dolphins have been a hard team for me to figure out this season. I pick them to lose and they win and I pick them to win and they lose. I am going to try picking them to win again and see what happens..... Miami 20  St. Louis 17

Green Bay @ Houston..... The Packers have been disappointing this season. They need to scrap the trying to be balanced junk and do what they do best, THROW THE FOOTBALL..... Green Bay 28  Houston 24

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Mauldin @ Gaffney..... The Mavericks are a homecoming opponent for the second week in a row, as they lost to Dorman on the Cavalier's homecoming last week. L.S.U. @ Florida..... The Gators are playing better than L.S.U. right now. The Gators have been impressive since the second half of the Tennessee game and the Tigers have struggled the last two weeks. I see a close game won by..... Florida 20  L.S.U. 17

NFL GAMES

Seattle @ Carolina..... The Panthers need a win after their heart breaking loss to Atlanta last week. I see them spoiling Sidney Rice's return to the Carolinas..... Carolina 24  Seattle 17

Miami @ Cincinnati..... The Dolphins have played better than expected but, they need another win to show it. They lose another close one..... Cincinnati 21  Miami 17

Green Bay @ Indianapolis..... The Packers pulled out a close one last week but, something is still wrong with their offense. Look for them to start playing better and get another win..... Green Bay 28  Indianapolis 17

DID YOU KNOW? The South Carolina Gamecocks have beaten Georgia two years in a row. They have never beaten the Bulldogs three times in a row in their football history.

Until Next Time.

WEEK 6 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

It was not a good football week for my teams last week. The Gaffney Indians is the only one of my teams that won. The Indians made a statement that they are not dead yet by putting together a dominating defensive effort against Dorman winning 14 to 0. Clemson played pretty well in Tallahassee against Florida State but, let it slip away in the 4th quarter losing 49 to 37. The Carolina Panthers played an awful game against the New York Giants losing 36 to 7. Green Bay and Miami both lost their games as well. Hopefully this week will be better for my teams.

My crystal ball worked much better last week, as I went 8 and 2 in my football picks. My record for the season is 33 and 17 for a percentage of .660. Let's look at this weeks picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Gaffney @ Wade Hampton..... The Indians made a statement last week with their impressive 14 to 0 win over 6th ranked Dorman. They have a chance to start building a winning streak and they will do just that..... Gaffney 42  Wade Hampton 7

Chesnee @ Liberty..... Can the Eagles stay on their roll? The answer is HECK YEAH THEY CAN..... Chesnee 30  Liberty 24

Byrnes @ Spartanburg..... It was an easy win for the Vikings last week against Riverside. It is going to be an easy win for the Rebels this week..... Byrnes 42  Spartanburg 10

COLLEGE GAMES

Clemson @ Boston College..... Can the Tigers bounce back after losing to Florida State? The BC Eagles will give them a game but, the Tigers will prevail..... Clemson 31  Boston College 21

South Carolina @ Kentucky..... The Gamecocks haven't really played anybody good so for. This week is no exception, as Kentucky is bad..... South Carolina 38  Kentucky 10

Texas @ Oklahoma State..... This one should be a pretty good one. The Horns are trying to get back up in the National scene and a win here would help..... Texas 23  Oklahoma State 21

NFL GAMES

Carolina @ Atlanta..... The Falcons have been good this season and the Panthers have not. This edition of the I-85 rivalry goes to..... Atlanta 24  Carolina 21

New Orleans @ Green Bay..... Who saw this coming? The Saints and Packers are a combined 1 and 5 on the season. I think the Packers win at home..... Green Bay 27  New Orleans 20

Until Next Time.

WEEK 5 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

The Gaffney Indians had the week off last week but, from what I heard they had a tough battle with Open Date. Ha! Ha! just kidding. We did have some very good games last week. In High School games, Greenville won a great game against Greer 24 to 21 and Dorman made a statement by defeating 6th ranked Dutch Fork 45 to 21. In College games, Clemson and South Carolina both won big and Florida continued their domination over Tennessee. In the NFL, Carolina and Miami both got their first wins of the season.

I am glad that my new crystal had a warranty with it when I bought it because I decided to take it back and get another. I went only 5 and 5 in my football picks last week. I am 25 and 15 for the season for a percentage of .625. I expect to do better this week. Let's look at this week's games.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Dorman @ Gaffney..... The Cavaliers looked very impressive last week in their win over Dutch Fork. The Indians had the week off to try to get better with their execution. I fully expect Gaffney to come out and play better but, they will fall short..... Dorman 24  Gaffney 21For a more in depth preview of this game click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Carolina @ Chesnee..... The Eagles are riding high after their big win at Pendleton last week. They will ride a little higher after another win against a pretty good Carolina team..... Chesnee 31  Carolina 20

Pendleton @ Blacksburg..... The Wildcats had a big win over Crescent last week. Can they follow that up with another big win over Pendleton? I don't think so..... Pendleton 23  Blacksburg 14

York @ Rock Hill..... The York Cougars have been very impressive this season. The Rock Hill Bearcats not so much. The Cougars get it done again..... York 20  Rock Hill 10

COLLEGE GAMES

Clemson @ Florida State..... The Game of the Week in the country. Big test for both of these teams in this top 10 showdown. Great game won by..... Florida State 28  Clemson 24

Missouri @ South Carolina..... The Gamecocks should win this game but, I see them being tested by the Tigers..... South Carolina 20  Missouri 17

Arizona @ Oregon..... The Wildcats of Arizona are a good football team. They aren't no where good enough to beat the Ducks..... Oregon 38  Arizona 24

NFL GAMES

New York Jets @ Miami..... I want to pick the Dolphins to win this game. I am still not sold on them even after their win last week. I should be close but, the Phins come up short..... New York Jets 19  Miami 17

Green Bay @ Seattle..... The Packers had a good win over the Bears last week. The Seahawks had a big win over the Cowboys. Seattle gives the Packers a game but..... Green Bay 31  Seattle 20

Houston @ Denver..... The Texans face old nemesis Peyton Manning. They should get him this time while wearing the Broncos uniform..... Houston 24  Denver 20

DID YOU KNOW? This is the first time that South Carolina at Number 7 and Clemson at Number 9 have both been ranked in the top 10 at the same time.

Until Next Time.

WEEK 4 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

Week 3 of the High School football season had some surprises and some great games. Gaffney was upset at The Reservation 34 to 19 by York, Woodruff hung on to defeat Chesnee 38 to 36, in a game that was much better than I anticipated and Byrnes held off Northwestern 32 to 28 in a great football game. In College football, Clemson and South Carolina both rolled to easy victories over Ball State and East Carolina. It was also the first week of the NFL season and all three of my NFL teams lost.

My new crystal ball was a little cloudy last week as I went 6 and 4 in my football picks. My record for the season is 20 and 10 for a percentage of .667. I am cleaning the ball as we speak and I intend to do better picking games this week. Let's look at this week's picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Greer @ Greenville..... This should be one heck of a game at historical Sirrine Stadium. The Yellow Jackets running game should be the difference..... Greer 28  Greenville 24

Dutch Fork @ Dorman..... Dutch Fork comes up from the midlands for a clash with the Cavaliers. Should be a dandy..... Dorman 24  Dutch Fork 21

Chesnee @ Pendleton..... In my opinion the winner of this game will win the Region..... Chesnee 31  Pendleton 28

Blacksburg @ Crescent..... This is another interesting match-up. The Wildcats have lost two close games and the Tigers are unbeaten..... Crescent 20  Blacksburg 14

COLLEGE GAMES

Furman @ Clemson..... The Tigers have their final tune up before their big game at Florida State next week..... Clemson 45  Furman 14

Alabama-Birmingham @ South Carolina..... This one should be like a walk in the park for the Gamecocks..... South Carolina 35  Alabama-Birmingham 10

Florida @ Tennessee..... Both of these teams are unbeaten but, Florida has not looked good and Tennessee has been impressive..... Tennessee 23  Florida 20

NFL GAMES

New Orleans @ Carolina..... This is a big early season game for both, as the loser will be 0 ad 2 to start the season..... Carolina 27  New Orleans 24

Oakland @ Miami..... Which one of these two teams will start 0 and 2? ..... Oakland 20  Miami 17

Dallas @ Seattle..... The Cowboys looked very good in their opener against the Giants. They look good here too..... Dallas 24  Seattle 14

DID YOU KNOW? Only 12% of NFL teams that start the season 0 and 2 make the playoffs.

Until Next Time.

WEEK 3 2012 PICKS

We had some exciting football games last week. It started down in Union County, as the Yellow Jackets trailed Gaffney 21 to 7 with about a minute and a half left and they rallied to tie the game only to see the Indians win it with a 15-yard TD run from reserve RB Jo Jo McGill with 3 seconds left. The Indians won 28 to 21. Greenwood and Dorman had a dog fight in Roebuck and the Eagles beat the Cavaliers 21 to 14. Clemson pulled out a big win over Auburn, at The Georgia Dome, with a strong 4th quarter 26 to 19.

My new crystal ball paid some big dividends in my picks last week as I went 7 and 0. I am now 14 and 6 on the season for a percentage of .700. The picks get a little more difficult this week, as we have opening of the NFL season. Let's look at this week's picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

York @ Gaffney..... This is a very good and confident York Cougar team that invades The Reservation. They are 2 and 0 and have a strong aggressive defense. The Indians are 2 and 1 and truing to go into their open week on a three game win streak..... Gaffney 24  York 17
You can see a more in depth preview of this game by clicking on Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Northwestern @ Byrnes..... The game of the week in the state bar none..... Byrnes 41  Northwestern 35

Woodruff @ Chesnee..... The Eagles are unbeaten and the Wolverines are win less but, the Wolverines will win big..... Woodruff 35  Chesnee 20

South Pointe @ Spartanburg..... This should be another good game between these two and I see the visitors getting the win..... South Pointe 21  Spartanburg 14

COLLEGE GAMES

Ball State @ Clemson..... The first game of the new season in Death Valley. Tigers coming off big win over Auburn and look to make it two in a row..... Clemson 38  Ball State 17

East Carolina @ South Carolina..... The first game of the new season in Williams-Brice. The Gamecocks look to get better this week and go to 2 and 0..... South Carolina 20  East Carolina 14

North Carolina @ Wake Forest..... The Heels won big last week and the Deacons squeaked by Liberty. The Heels win again..... North Carolina 27  Wake Forest 14

NFL GAMES

Carolina @ Tampa Bay..... Cam Newton and the Panthers look to get off to a good start in 2012. They will do just that..... Carolina 24  Tampa Bay 19

San Francisco @ Green Bay..... This one should be a doozy...... Green Bay 27  San Francisco 20

Miami @ Houston..... The Dolphins hope to get the Joe Philbin era off to a good start. It won't happen..... Houston 28  Miami 17

Until Next Time.

WEEK 2 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

We had some interesting games last week, as Gaffney bounced back with a big win at Clinton, Byrnes made a statement on ESPN against Oscar Smith of Virginia and Chesnee won a shootout at Chapman. We have the opening week of College football this week and we have some highly anticipated games to look at.

The ArmChair Coach went 4 and 4 in football picks last week. I am 7 and 6 for the young season. I have taken my crystal ball to the Cherokee County landfill and I will break in a new one this week. Hopefully the new one will work better than the old one because 7 and 6 is not acceptable in picking football games. Let's look at this week's picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Gaffney @ Union County..... The excitement is high in Union County for this one. It will be the home opener for the Yellow jackets and new Head Coach Steve Tanneyhill. The Indians bounced back with an impressive win over Clinton and the Jackets upset Spartanburg. This should be an exciting game which will be won by..... Gaffney 35  Union County 21
For a more in depth preview of this game click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Byrnes @ Woodruff..... The only hope the Wolverines have of winning this game, between old rivals which haven't played since the 1990s, is Byrnes being flat after their big win last week and anticipating their big match-up with Northwestern next week. It probably won't matter..... Byrnes 42  Woodruff 14

Spartanburg @ Laurens..... The Vikings are still upset after losing to Union County last week. They should go on the road and get their first win of 2012..... Spartanburg 23  Laurens 13

Greenwood @ Dorman..... This is one of the best match-ups in the state this week. Both were very impressive in winning last week. It should go down to the wire..... Greenwood 24  Dorman 21

COLLEGE GAMES

Clemson vs Auburn @ The Georgia Dome..... This is the rubber game of the three game series between these two teams. Auburn won two years ago on their way to the National Championship. Clemson won last year on their way to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. When these two meet it is always exciting and entertaining and this year will be no different..... Clemson 27  Auburn 21

N.C. State vs Tennessee @ The Georgia Dome..... This is game one of the two game two night Chick-fil A Kickoff Classic. This has a chance to be another good football game. It would not surprise me to see the Wolf Pack win but..... Tennessee 20  N.C. State 17

Alabama vs Michigan @ The Cowboy's Classic in Dallas..... It don't get much better than two traditional powers like the Crimson Tide and the Wolverines opening the season against each other. It's like a major bowl game to start the season..... Alabama 24  Michigan 14

DID YOU KNOW? Gaffney and Union first played football against each other in 1920. The Yellow jackets lost the first 26 games to Gaffney but, got their first win over the Indians in 1971 by 14 to 7.

Until Next Time.

WEEK 1 2012 FOOTBALL PICKS

The High School football season got underway last week with a handful of games played in Week 0. The biggest surprise of the five games that I picked last week took place at The Reservation in Gaffney, as the Indians fell and fell hard to Northwestern 49 to 19. The Indians played as uninspired a brand of football as I have seen them play in quiet sometime. The Trojans were ready to play and they were fired up. When you get these two combinations together you have a score like we had at The Reservation Friday night.

The ArmChair Coach went 3 and 2 in football picks from Week 0. I am motivated to do better this week. Let's look at this week's picks.

HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Gaffney @ Clinton..... The Tribe is looking to bounce back from a bad performance last week against Northwestern. Clinton is starting their season and would like to get off to a good start. I expect a more inspired performance by Gaffney this week..... Gaffney 34  Clinton 14
For a more in depth preview of this game click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Byrnes @ Oscar Smith (VA)..... This televised game is a match-up between the South Carolina 4A Division 1 State Champs and the Virginia 6A Division State Champs. I am going with the home team in this one..... Oscar Smith (VA) 28  Byrnes 21

Nation Ford @ Boiling Springs..... The Bulldogs are trying to build on their most successful season ever, in 4A last season, by getting off to a good start this season. They will do just that..... Boiling Springs 24  Nation Ford 10

Dorman @ Rock Hill..... These two old Region 2 rivals haven't played in a number of seasons. Should be a pretty good one..... Dorman 23  Rock Hill 20

Union County @ Spartanburg..... The Steve Tanneyhill era starts in Union against the Vikings of Spartan High. I see an upset by the Jackets..... Union County 24  Spartanburg 20

Chesnee @ Chapman..... The Eagles got a big win over rival Broome in Week 0. Can they get another win over a rival in Week 1? I don't think so..... Chapman 20  Chesnee 17

Blacksburg @ St. Joeseph's..... These two were region rivals last season. The Wildcats move to 2A gets them a win over a 1A rival..... Blacksburg 19  St. Joeseph's 17

Williston-Elco @ Chesterfield..... I wanted to see this match-up a couple of years ago when both were winning 1A State Championships in their divisions. We get it now and Williston-Elco is Number 1 in 1A and Chesterfield has moved up to 2A. Should be a good one..... Williston-Elco 24  Chesterfield 20

DID YOU KNOW? This is the first game between storied programs Gaffney and Clinton since 1959. Gaffney holds a 3-1-1 lead in the all time series.

Until Next Time.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IS BACK!

The ArmChair Coach is back after a four month hiatus. High school football is also back and I am ready for SOME FOOTBALL! It has taken me several months to get over the disappointment of my beloved Gaffney Indians being upset in the 4A Division 1 State Title Game by Byrnes, back in December. I am ready for another exciting High School Football season. Most of the schools open next week in Week 1 of the 2012 season but, we have a few games this week in what the High School League calls Week 0. Why call it Week 0? Zero means zero and if they are games being played it shouldn't be called Week 0. Just one of the many strange things that the South Carolina High School League comes up with. So we have to play with the cards we are dealt, so we call it Week 0. Let's look at my picks for Week 0 2012.

WEEK 0 HIGH SCHOOL GAMES

Northwestern @ Gaffney..... The Gaffney players, coaches and fans can't wait to play another football game. The sting of losing the State Championship in December still leaves a bad taste. The Trojans are looking forward to getting their season off with a STATEMENT! It should be a good early season showdown between rivals..... Gaffney 27  Northwestern 20
You can get a more in depth preview of this game by clicking on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

Chesnee @ Broome..... This should be another interesting early season match-up between rivals. Two teams coming off disappointing seasons a year ago and both with new Head Coaches and renewed excitement..... Broome 27  Chesnee 21

Greenville @ Abbeville..... The Red Raiders had a very disappointing season last year. They are looking to bounce back against the always powerful Abbeville Panthers. Abbeville is a tough place to win on the road but, the Red Raiders give it their all..... Abbeville 20  Greenville 17

Easley @ Pickens..... This is another early season backyard brawl. The Green Wave has the better team but, you never know when two rivals that dislike each other meet on the field..... Easley 34  Pickens 14

Irmo @ South Pointe..... This is another game that I find very interesting. The long time traditional power Irmo Yellow jackets against the young power South Pointe Stallions. Let's go with the home team..... South Pointe 20  Irmo 10

These five Week 0 games really peaked my interest and really really fired me up for the season to begin. You will be able to see my football picks for this coming football season on Friday mornings throughout the season. I will be picking High School, College and NFL games. I will mix in a few more posts that I hope you find interesting and informative during the season as well.

Until Next Time.

DOWN TO THE FINAL FOUR!

College basketball's March Madness is down to the Final Four. The Final Four will be held in New Orleans and the National Semifinals are Saturday. The National Championship Game will be Monday April 2nd. Let's look at the match-ups and I will tell you who I think will come away with the National Championship.

SATURDAY'S NATIONAL SEMIFINALS

Louisville vs Kentucky..... These two schools and their fan bases don't like each other. Louisville's Head Coach Rick Pittino used to coach Kentucky. Louisville is the highest seed to make the Final Four at a number 4. Kentucky is the only number 1 seed to make the Final Four. Both teams are playing very well but, I see Kentucky beating Louisville and making the Finals.

Ohio State vs Kansas..... Both of these teams are number 2 seeds and beat the number 1's in their regional to get to the Final Four. Ohio State beat Syracuse and Kansas beat North Carolina. This should be a very good game and I see Kansas beating Ohio State to make the Finals.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

I have predicted a Kentucky vs Kansas National Championship Game. If it comes down to these two teams, it will be a College basketball championship game between two tradition rich programs. I hope it does because I would like to see it. I am predicting a National Championship for Kentucky!!

It will be fun to see how it plays out and to see if my predictions come true. It will be very exciting.

My next blog on The ArmChair Coach will be on April 20th.

2012 SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONS CROWNED!

It has been another interesting and exciting High School basketball season in South Carolina. It came to an end with the Weekend of Champions at the Colonial Life Arena on the campus of the University of South Carolina. Finally some good basketball was played at this arena this season. Let's look at the winners.

4A Boys Lexington vs Gaffney..... The Gaffney Indians rallied from seven points down with a little over 2:00 to play to force overtime, when sophomore wing L.J. Peak hit two free throws with 7 seconds left to tie it at 50. The Indians went on to win the game 58 to 55 in overtime. The Indians finish with a record of 23 and 5. This is Gaffney's second Title in three years and their fifth in ten years. For a more in depth recap of this game, click on the Tribe Blitz link on this page.

4A Girls Dutch Fork vs Orangeburg-Wilkinson..... The Dutch Fork Lady Silver Foxes won their first State Championship with a 61 to 29 victory over the Lady Bruins of Orangeburg-Wilkinson. It was all Lady Foxes as their record finishes 26 and 3.

3A Boys Hartsville vs Southside..... The Hartsville Red Foxes won their first basketball State Championship with a 69 to 56 victory over Southside. This was Hartsville's second appearance in the State Championship game and their first since 1952. The Red Foxes finished 23 and 6.

3A Girls Dreher vs Wade Hampton..... Kaydra Duckett scored 20 points to lead Dreher to their first State Championship since 2002. They defeated Wade Hampton's Lady Generals 82 to 50.

2A Boys North Charleston vs Newberry..... North Charleston opened the game on an 18 to 0 run but, they had to withstand a furious rally by Newberry to win the 2A Boys State Championship 49 to 48. Newberry missed a shot at the buzzer that would have won the game.

2A Girls Bishop England vs Columbia..... The Bishop England girls capped off an unbeaten season with a comeback victory over Columbia. They pulled out a 43 to 41 victory over Columbia to finish the season 28 and 0.

1A Boys Great Falls vs Johnsonville..... Great Falls had all five starters in double figures, as they won a record 10th 1A State Basketball Championship. They defeated Johnsonville 79 to 61 to finish the season 27 and 1.

1A Girls Timmonsville vs Abbeville..... Timmonsville won their second 1A State Basketball Championship with a convincing 50 to 37 victory over Abbeville. Sophomore guard Sade Eli scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the victory.

DID YOU KNOW? The Gaffney Indians have now won 6 State Championships in boys basketball in school history. The first was in 1949 and they have won 5 State Championships under Head Coach Mark Huff since 2003. They had a three-peat from 2003-2005 and they won in 2010 and 2012. They also have a runner-up in 2009.

The next edition of The ArmChair Coach will be on March 23rd.

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY RECAP (2012)

The Super Bowl wound up going down to the last possession of the game and the NY Giants beat the New England Patriots 21 to 17. Giants' QB Eli Manning won the Super Bowl MVP. This was the 4th Super Bowl Title for the NY Giants and the second time they had beaten Tom Brady and the Patriots. After going 9 and 7 during the regular season the Giants are World Champions.

The ArmChair Coach picked the Super Bowl winner and the final record for my football picks this season was 157 and 56 for a percentage of .737. It has been a very interesting, exciting and at times heartbreaking season for The ArmChair Coach and I have enjoyed sharing my take on High School, College and NFL football. I will continue to share my sports opinions and information with you as we go forward. I will post a new blog twice a month beginning on March 5th. Let's look at National Signing Day 2012.

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY 2012

The top two players in the state of South Carolina, Lexington's Shaq Roland and Gaffney's Quinshad Davis signed with South Carolina and North Carolina. Roland had been committed to South Carolina for a few months but, Davis announced on signing day to go to North Carolina.

The Clemson Tigers signed four of the Top 10 players in the state of South Carolina, as they were able to get Daniel DL Shaq Lawson, Silver Bluff DB Cordrea Tankersley, Dorman OL Patrick DeStefano and Fox Creek DB Marty Williams. Some of the other notable players that the Tigers signed were QB Chad Kelly from Buffalo NY, OT Isaiah Battle from Brooklyn NY, DB Travis Blanks from Tallahassee FL and DT Carlos Watkins from Chase HS of Forest City NC. The Tigers wound up with a CLASS RANKED AS HIGH AS 7TH NATIONALLY.

The South Carolina Gamecocks signed two of the Top 10 players in the state of South Carolina, as they signed the before mentioned Lexington WR Shaq Roland and Dillon WR Kwinton Smith. Some of the other notable players signed by the Gamecocks were WR Jody Fuller from Monroe NC, CB Rico McWilliams from Hampton GA, DB Jordan Diggs from Cape Coral FL and RB Mike Davis from Stone Mountain GA. The Gamecocks wound up with a CLASS RANKED AS HIGH AS 12TH NATIONALLY.

The Tigers and Gamecocks had very good signing classes, as the Tigers signed 20 players and had their second consecutive Top 10 class and the Gamecocks signed 25 players and another Top 25 class. The rich continue to keep getting richer, as the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide signed the NUMBER 1 CLASS IN THE COUNTRY.

The Gaffney Indians..... had six football players sign to play college football led by SC Gator Aide Player of the Year and All American WR Quinshad Davis with North Carolina, Honorable Mention All American QB Joey Copeland with South Carolina State, DB Snoop Byers and DL Edward Bigby with Presbyterian, DL/LB Robert Grandy with Mars Hill and LB Savon Dukes with Lenoir-Rhyne.

DID YOU KNOW? Clemson QB signee Chad Kelly is former Buffalo Bills QB Jim Kelly's nephew.

DID YOU KNOW? South Carolina RB signee Mike Davis is former Clemson RB James Davis' brother.

The next blog of The ArmChair Coach will be on March 5th.

SUPER BOWL XLVI PREVIEW

I always have mixed emotions come Super Bowl time. It is the biggest football game of them all but, it is also the last football game of the season as well. Since I don't have a team that I root for in the game this year, it is even more depressing that the season is coming to a close. We have a rematch, from a few season's back, when the NY Giants upset the undefeated New England Patriots. Each one of these teams have won three Super Bowls and it will be the forth for the winner. It has a chance to be a pretty good football game.

The ArmChair Coach went 2 and 0 in the Conference Championship Game picks. My record for the season is 156 and 56 for a percentage of .736. Let's look at the Super Bowl Preview.

SUPER BOWL XLVI

New York Giants vs New England Patriots..... If you just look at the two teams stats and records from the regular season, the game should be a mismatch in favor of the Patriots. The Giants had a 9 and 7 record and had to win their last two games to win the NFC Eastern Division just to get in the playoffs. They scored 394 points for an average of 24.6 per game and they gave up 400 points for an average of 25.0 per game. It makes you scratch your head when you see the Giants in the Super Bowl after giving up more points than they scored during the regular season.

The Patriots went 13 and 3 during the regular season with one of their losses to the Giants. They had one of the best offenses in the NFL during the season scoring 513 points for an average of 32.1 per game. Their defense was 31st out of 32 teams in total yardage given up and they gave up 342 points for an average of 21.4 per game. They won the AFC East Division easily over the NY Jets.

I can't just look at the regular season to make my pick of the Super Bowl winner. The Giants remind me very much of the Green Bay Packers of last season. The Packers had to win their last three games to get into the playoffs as a wild card. They did it and they made their run through the playoffs and Super Bowl to become Super Bowl Champions. The Giants and Patriots both have big game QBs in Eli Manning and Tom Brady. The Patriots have a suspect defense and a great offense. The Giants defense has played lights out during the playoffs and their offense has been pretty good as well. Both Head Coaches are Bill Parcells disciples and they will be prepared to play.

Game Prediction..... Tom Brady is probably the best big game QB in the NFL right now but, the Giants look to much like the Packers from last season and they are peeking at just the right time..... New York Giants 27 New England Patriots 23

DID YOU KNOW? The Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with 6. The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have both won 5. The Green Bay Packers 4 and the New York Giants and New England Patriots 3 each.

My next edition of The ArmChair Coach will be on Friday February 10th as I will look at College Football's National Signing Day.

Until Next Time.

NFL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP PICKS

The two favorites in the NFC, the Packers and the Saints, both were upset in the Divisional round of the playoffs. The Packers were out of sink offensively after the bye week and FOUR TURNOVERS killed them as well. They were beaten by the Giants 37 to 20. The Saints had five turnovers and fell to the 49ers 36 to 32.

The ArmChair Coach went 2 and 2 in football picks last week. My record for the season is 154 and 56 for a percentage of .733. Let's look at this week's picks of the NFL Conference Championship Games.

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

NY Giants @ San Francisco..... The Giants are playing like the Packers did last year, peaking at the right time of the season, PLAYOFF TIME. I look for them to go into San Francisco and get a win over the upstart 49ers..... NY Giants 23 San Francisco 14

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Baltimore @ New England..... It would not surprise me if the Ravens won this game. However, I think Tom Brady will put a drive together late to get the win..... New England 24 Baltimore 21

The next edition of The ArmChair Coach will be on Friday February 3rd which will be the Super Bowl Preview.

Until Next Time.

WEEK 21 FOOTBALL PICKS (2011)

The highlights from last week are, we have a new National Champion in College Football and it is Alabama. The Tide ROLLED over Number 1 LSU 21 to 0 in one of the most dominant defensive performances you will ever see. In the NFL Playoffs, the Pittsburgh Steelers got Tebowed 29 to 23 in overtime. We will have a new AFC Champion this season with the Steelers eliminated.

The ArmChair Coach went 3 and 3 in football picks last week. My record for the season is 152 and 54 for a percentage of .738. Let's look at this week's games.

NFL PLAYOFFS

Denver @ New England..... This is a rematch of a game played in Denver a few weeks back. The Patriots forced some turnovers and defeated the Broncos to start the three game slide that Denver ended the season with. I would love to see Tebow and the Broncos win this game but, I don't see it happening..... New England 24 Denver 17

Houston @ Baltimore..... The Texans got their first ever playoff win last week versus the Bengals. They will have to wait to get playoff win number 2..... Baltimore 23 Houston 10

New Orleans @ San Francisco..... The Saints are rolling and look like a well oiled machine. The 49ers are a surprising number 2 seed in the NFC. I see the Saints rolling through the bay area and coming out with a win..... New Orleans 27 San Francisco 20

NY Giants @ Green Bay..... The Packers are the defending Champs and rolled through the season 15 and 1 but, the Giants seem to be peaking at just the right time. It should be a good one and I see the Packers winning late..... Green Bay 28 NY Giants 20

Until Next Time.

WEEK 20 FOOTBALL PICKS (2011)

The football season continues to slip away. Most of the bowl games are over and we are starting the NFL playoffs this week. It has been a season of excitement, disappointment and frustration at times but, these are three of the reasons that make it fun.

The ArmChair Coach went 7 and 3 in football picks last week. My record for the season is 149 and 51 for a percentage of .745. Let's look at this weeks picks.

COLLEGE BOWL GAMES

Cotton Bowl..... Kansas State vs Arkansas..... This looks like a pretty good match-up. The Big 12 vs the SEC. I see it as a 4th quarter game with the hogs pulling it out..... Arkansas 30 Kansas State 24

BCS National Championship Game..... LSU vs Alabama..... The Tigers shouldn't have to play Alabama again. They have already beaten them in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide didn't even win their division or their conference. They probably are the two best teams but, IT AIN'T FAIR FOR LSU TO HAVE TO BEAT THEM AGAIN!! I think it will cost them..... Alabama 17 LSU 14

NFL PLAYOFFS

Cincinnati @ Houston..... This is the first playoff game for the Texans and the place will be rocking. They are beat up and I believe it will cost them..... Cincinnati 20 Houston 17

Detroit @ New Orleans..... This is the Lions first playoff game in several years. The Saints are rolling along as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. It should be a shootout..... New Orleans 38 Detroit 30

Atlanta @ NY Giants..... This time last year the Falcons had a 1st round bye and home field throughout. They wound up losing to the Packers and the bad taste is still there. A win over the Giants will help..... Atlanta 24 NY Giants 17

Pittsburgh @ Denver..... This is probably the most interesting game of the wild card weekend. Tim Tebow's first playoff start and can he lead the Broncos past the favored but, beat up Steelers? It should be close but, I see the Steelers getting the win..... Pittsburgh 17 Denver 10

Until Next Time.
